What is FACE?

A philosophy from diagnosis to treatment

FACE is a goal-oriented and comprehensive philosophy of diagnosis and treatment that sees orthodontics as more than aligning teeth.

It begins with diagnosis

In the FACE approach, treatment does not begin with a bracket system or mechanics; it begins with the right diagnosis and a problem list. Then treatment goals are set, a treatment plan is built to reach them, and only then are the appropriate treatment mechanics chosen and applied.

Treatment goals

In FACE, the goal is not merely well-aligned teeth. Facial and dental aesthetics, orthopedic stability, periodontal health, functional occlusion, jaw joint health, the airway and long-term stability are among the core treatment goals.

Four bioesthetic principles

On the way to these goals, four core bioesthetic principles show the way: orthopedic stability, harmony of form and function, anterior guidance and facial aesthetics.

Mechanics is a tool

In the FACE philosophy, mechanics is never the treatment itself. Brackets, wires, clear aligners, skeletal anchorage or surgery are only tools used to reach the goals that have been set.

FACE turns orthodontics from a tooth-moving technique into a comprehensive treatment philosophy.
